Earlier today on Twitter Aaron Erickson was berating the inability to write linq statements directly in Xaml. While I’m not totally convinced that is a good idea to begin with I decided to come up with a little proof of concept to see if it’s even feasible. I was able to get about half way to what I would like to see by creating a custom markup extension called LinqBinding. The result allows you to create bindings such as this:
|
<sys:String x:Key="query">id > 1 && id < 4 || name=="six"</sys:String>
…
<ListBox ItemsSource="{e:LinqBinding {StaticResource query}, Binding={Binding}}" />
|
The query in the string is the linq statement you would put into the where clause normally. I was unable to figure out how to use a Binding statement to a TextBox instead of having the hard-coded string but I’m pretty confident it is possible somehow (I’ll leave that for another blog post for now).
In order to accomplish this I used the code found in the Dynamic Linq examples talked about by Scott Guthrie in his blog.

Tomorrow night (Thursday, 2/21/08) is the next XNA Twin Cities User Group meeting and I will be giving a presentation on the MinMax algorithm in Drop In. It should be pretty fun, there will be some pizza and swag (including some xbox games) and a few other speakers talking about some other interesting AI topics. If you're in the area you should definitely stop in and learn about XNA!
Here is the main link http://www.twincitiesxnausergroup.com/
And be sure to RSVP so we can guage how many people will be there and get the appropriate amount of pizza.

This month at the Twin Cities XNA User Group meeting is a "Member Project" event, where members will show and talk about their various XNA projects instead of having a guest speaker. It should be pretty intesting.
I'm planning on showing a demo of a game I created called DropIn. I have an post about the game with source code on an old abandoned blog somwhere but I will probably repost everything to this blog sometime in the near future (once I get it working again that is).
So if you're interested in XNA, pizza or swag then you should definitely come on down and check it out. At the very least you should get a good laugh watching me trying to show off my game!
Come on down to Magenic, on December 20th, 2007 at 6:00PM.
